Staff Accountant II

Location: This position can be based in Anchorage, AK, Dillingham, AK, Spokane, WA, REMOTE, or hybrid. The ideal candidate will be willing to work from any of these locations. United States-Based candidates only. 

Summary

The Staff Accountant Level II is responsible for more complex financial transactions and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards. The ideal candidate will have a few years of accounting experience and demonstrate of working Independently as well as collaboratively with the team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
  • Update accounts receivable, issue invoices, and monitor accounts receivable aging schedules to ensure collections are timely processed.
  • Update accounts payable, perform reconciliations, and manage vendor records.
  • Process weekly payroll runs and prepare and submit the associated federal and state reports.
  • Prepare Work-in-Progress project estimates for monthly accrual bookings.
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card account reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status as a part of monthly closing cycles.
  • Assist with state and federal grant monitoring & reporting.
  • Assist with audit and tax requests to ensure compliance.
  • Manage internal control safeguards for the receipts of revenue, costs and all department, business unit and consolidated budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Maintain records of transactions and status of accounts.
  • Monitor and prepare reports and submittals for sales tax and real estate property.
  • Review the efficiency of accounting and administrative processes, make recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
  • Maintain current documentation of process workflows, procedures, checklists, and policies for assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates with HR to determine employee eligibility for benefits and ensure benefits are appropriately accounted for within payroll.
  • Assist with other accounting projects as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Additional relevant experience may be substituted for post-secondary education on a year for year basis.
  • 5 years of technical experience in accounting and/or finance.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team.
  • Customer friendly and focused with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge with SAGE-Intacct program (Preferred).
  • Excellent communication and collaborations skills (Preferred).
  • Experience with creating financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.

  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Frequently required to read small print found on financial documents, research materials, computer screens, etc.
  • Occasionally required to lift objects of no more than ten pounds.
  • Travel up to ten (10%) of the time.
  • Occasionally required to travel in small aircraft.
