Choggiung Wood Cutting Year 2010
Over the last few years it has become apparent that wood cutting on Choggiung and surrounding lands have been under considerable pressure and misuse. In addition, there is confusion as to the policies for woodcutting and where to cut wood. It is Choggiung's responsibility as stewards of our land to protect this valuable asset for all our shareholders.
Effective October 1, 2010 we are instituting a new woodcutting program similar to our very successful Nushagak Land Use Program to protect our wood resource. As always, we will be asking our woodcutting permit holders to help us with this enforce however, to insure compliance we will need to pay an individual(s) to patrol our land. The funding for this effort will come from the following new program:

Requirements/Stipulations
1. This permit is issued only for the current year and only on Choggiung land.
2. A shareholder is defined as Choggiung or BBNC shareholder.
3. All permit holders are required to keep a record of the number of cords cut and must be returned prior to renewing your permit.
4. Only dry/dead spruce trees can be cut. All of the tree trunk up to a 4" diameter must be taken with the exception of the limbs.
5. The permit holder is responsible for clean up of all equipment, supplies and garbage brought to the site. Burying garbage is expressly forbidden.
6. Personal use is defined as the harvesting of twelve (12) cords of wood or less per year.
7. Personal use permits are based on household/family.
8. Only Choggiung shareholders can hold a commercial permit.
9. Commercial use is defined as a Choggiung shareholder that:
a. Harvests wood for sale.
b. Harvests over twelve (12) cords of wood for personal use.
c. Harvests wood for use with a commercial property.
10. Helpers of commercial permit holders are required to have a helper permit.
11. Commercial permit holders are required to report the number of cords harvested the prior month by the 15th of the each month.
12. Monuments, markers or other signs will not be disturbed.
13. This permit does not give permission to cut on Native allotments. It is the permitee responsibility to determine the landowner.
14. Trees in the designated cutting area will be on a first-come, first serve basis. It is the responsibility of the permittee to remove the tree immediately after it is cut down.
15. Use of firearms on-site is prohibited.
16. Fires are prohibited.
17. Uses under this permit shall not interfere with berry picking or other subsistence activities.
18. This permit is not transferable and may not be shared, rented, leased, assigned, or in any way encumbered.
19. No interest in Choggiung Ltd. land is conveyed or established by this permit.
20. Alteration of a permit or misrepresentation of permit information will be grounds for revocation and future denial.
21. Choggiung Ltd. retains the right to deny, revoke or limit any permit at any time, with cause at the discretion of the Land Manager and without any recourse upon Choggiung Ltd. or subsidiary corporations.
22. The permit holder acknowledges that cutting wood is inherently a dangerous activity. Choggiung Ltd. will not be liable in anyway, and will be indemnified and hold harmless for any injuries or damages sustained as a result of the use under this permit.
